Dirt Druid Pottery is a queer, neurodivergent-owned and operated small-batch pottery company based in Denver, Colorado. Wheel-thrown and sculptural techniques are used to explore the shape, color, and texture of natural materials such as flora, fauna, and fungi. Dirt Druid's mission is to create ceramics that are tactile, unusual, and whimsical, while still maintaining functionality.
The name Dirt Druid was inspired by the ancient Celtic Druids, who held the concepts of early science and old magic in equal regard. They worshipped mighty trees and practiced divination, while also studying astronomy, botany, and holistic medicines. This is how the owner and operator of Dirt Druid, Réya, sees the process of ceramics. Much of ceramics is absolutely science, but there is a magic alongside that which is undeniable.

My work is made in small batches, allowing for creative freedom and differences in form and themes to arise as I explore new areas of inspiration. Some pieces are in consistent production, while others may be available only in limited supply.

Inspired by mycelial networks, fungi, and microorganisms, Lattice Mugs are carefully curated through a multi-step process. While the formula stays the same, each is unique in its hand-carved pattern and shape.
Mugs are wheel-thrown using mid-fire Bmix, hand-carved and assembled, and glazed with food-safe and lead-free glazes.
Wood-fired mugs were fired in two Groundhog-style wood kilns in Tres Piedras, New Mexico, by a team of roughly 20 people over 5 days. Wood firing allows for a multitude of surface details to appear, such as crystal formations, carbon trapping, and color changes from the original glaze formulation. Each wood-fired pot is one of one and cannot be entirely reproduced in its likeness.
Dimensions may vary: 3.25” wide at the mouth, 4” tall. Holds 12 fluid ounces.
This mug was wheel-thrown, trimmed, and carved entirely by hand.
All clay and glaze are food-safe and lead-free.

Hand-carved flames were coated in flashing slip, while the body of the pot was left bare during firing to receive atmospheric surface treatment from the wood-firing process.

Each pot is an expression of myself and the chapters of life I reside in as I make it. My work, technique, and aesthetics are ever-changing as I gain more knowledge and experience through the materials and the world around me. Within the creative process, I focus on the subtleties of texture and form to create a sensory experience for the hands that later hold it.
